Alton Towers reveals plans for new walk-through attraction in X Sector

Planning applications have been submitted for a new walk-through attraction building at Alton Towers, positioned within X Sector on the land previously occupied by Submission and Enterprise. The structure is described as having industrial-themed finishes — a detail that has immediately fired up speculation about what the experience inside will actually be.

X Sector has sat underused for some time. The removal of its former attractions left a visible gap in that corner of the park, and for a resort that has faced persistent questions about its overall ride and attraction count, any development in the area is meaningful. A walk-through experience may not be the flat ride many visitors had hoped would replace what was lost, but it represents tangible investment in a part of the park that needed it.

What remains unknown is the nature of the attraction itself. The industrial aesthetic lends itself naturally to a Scarefest maze, and 2026 would be a credible target. An opening beyond this season — perhaps as a permanent year-round experience — is equally possible. Nothing has been confirmed either way.

The TT Take: X Sector getting new life is genuinely good news — this area has needed attention, and seeing development progress to planning stage is encouraging. A walk-through experience is not the permanent flat ride the park needs, and the loss of the Retro Squad has left a real gap that something of this nature won’t fill. The industrial theming is a strong creative signal, but the biggest question — what this attraction actually is, and whether it runs year-round or only at Scarefest — remains completely open. That answer will determine whether this is a meaningful addition or a seasonal stopgap.
