Midgårdsormen at Djurs Sommerland will sit at the heart of a 15,000-square-metre Vikingeland expansion in 2027, combining a new coaster with a surrounding landscape inspired by Norse mythology.

Leisure Expert Group’s project details explain how the development will connect with the existing themed area. Its work covers the masterplan, architecture, scenic elements and art direction, with visitor movement, capacity and landscaping considered alongside the storytelling.

The coaster brings a significant change to the Danish park’s ride line-up. Midgårdsormen will be its tenth coaster and the first to turn riders upside down, with three inversions, two launches and a top speed of 75km/h. The single-rail Hot Racer design seats riders individually, one behind another.

According to Djurs Sommerland’s official details, the ride will reach 23 metres high across 603 metres of track, with a 1.2-metre minimum height requirement. The park describes it as Europe’s tallest and fastest Hot Racer.

For UK visitors, the design connection is worth knowing: Leisure Expert Group’s portfolio also includes Valgard at Paultons Park. Here, the team is applying its experience of Viking-themed environments to an expansion designed around Midgårdsormen and its place within the wider park.

The TT Take:

The coaster gets you planning the trip. A beautifully realised land makes the time between rides part of the attraction. Valgard gives visitors a good reason to be interested in what this team does next. With that work informing TT’s confidence in the designers, the prospect of a detailed Viking setting around a substantial new coaster makes this an exciting addition to the 2027 calendar.
