Universal UK construction preparations have taken another visible step, with the company naming 23 firms appointed to support development of Universal United Kingdom Resort.

Its September supplier update confirms that enabling works are underway. The appointments include Bovis Construction, Morgan Sindall, Sir Robert McAlpine, Wates Construction and Winvic Construction, alongside companies including Arcadis, AtkinsRéalis, Arup and Oxford Archaeology. Individual contract values and work packages are not disclosed.

The update also acknowledges ten firms that supported feasibility and planning, many of which remain involved. Universal says further supplier announcements will follow periodically, while businesses interested in future opportunities can register through its website.

The wider development will bring a theme park, a 500-room hotel, shopping, dining and entertainment to Bedfordshire. Universal forecasts around 20,000 construction jobs and an initial 8,000 direct operational roles, illustrating the scale of the undertaking. Project overview

For prospective visitors, 2031 remains the planned opening year, as outlined in the government’s June announcement. This supplier update provides evidence of the team assembling behind that ambition, but does not announce a revised schedule or reveal any rides. Government announcement

The TT Take:

The less glamorous updates are often the ones that show how much work a theme park actually takes. Naming the companies supporting construction, alongside enabling works already underway, makes Universal UK feel increasingly tangible. That is welcome progress towards 2031, although several years of development remain and these appointments alone cannot establish whether the resort will meet its opening target.
