Chessington reveals Escape the Nether coaster and Minecraft hotel
An indoor/outdoor coaster and a fully themed hotel will bring Minecraft adventures to Chessington in 2027, raising the stakes for its family offering.

Chessington’s Minecraft coaster has a name: Escape the Nether. Revealed during Minecraft LIVE on 26 September alongside a Minecraft hotel, the attraction will anchor Minecraft World when the new land opens in 2027. The land was announced earlier this year; the coaster name and accommodation plans are the latest additions to the picture.

Guests will board minecart-inspired vehicles and join Steve and Alex on an adventure through the Nether, encountering hostile mobs before launching back into the Overworld. The ride combines indoor and outdoor sections, with the announcement describing a journey through dark mines before emerging through a Nether portal into the land. Chessington is billing it as the world’s first Minecraft roller coaster.
The Minecraft Hotel, also due in 2027, extends the theme beyond the park gates. Plans include an Overworld-inspired reception, Nether Portal lifts, mine-tunnel corridors and Minecraft bedrooms. An underwater-themed restaurant will draw on the game’s ocean environments, while the bar takes inspiration from the Woodland Mansion.

For families considering a visit, some practical details remain unconfirmed. Chessington has not announced an exact opening date for Minecraft World or the coaster’s height requirement, and hotel bookings are not yet available. Those details will help establish which children can ride and how an overnight stay fits into a 2027 trip.

The TT Take
On our 2026 visits, Paultons offered the stronger family day out; Minecraft gives Chessington a serious opportunity to change that comparison. We love an indoor coaster, and a modern indoor/outdoor adventure paired with a fully themed hotel is a compelling reason for families, gamers and Minecraft fans to consider a 2027 trip. With Universal on the horizon, this is the ambition we want to see from the southern parks, although whether the finished experience can approach the quality we’d hope for from Universal remains unproven. A famous name can get families through the gates; the depth of the theming, a satisfying family-thrill balance and operations that cope with demand will decide whether they come back.
