Efteling’s Raveleijn refresh just became much more interesting

Efteling has revealed Ravenring, a new family attraction opening this winter as part of the renewed Raveleijn themed world. Rather than simply updating the existing park show, the Dutch theme park is adding a new ride to the area, built around winged vehicles inspired by ravens and the magical world of Raveleijn.

Ravenring will feature 18 vehicles carrying 36 riders at a time, with guests able to use a lever to control how steeply their vehicle tilts during the ride. The one-metre minimum height requirement is the family win here: Ravenring looks built for the whole family, not just the bravest person in the pushchair queue. At the centre of the attraction will be the Raven medallion, with the ride also using banners and the five magical elements connected to Raveleijn: water, fire, wood, earth and metal.

The wider area is also being refreshed. Efteling says the Raveleijn show is being fully renewed with a new storyline and special effects, created in collaboration with Puy du Fou. More details on the show, and the exact opening date for the renewed area, are due later this year.

THE TT TAKE:

Efteling said “show refresh” and then slipped a new family ride into the deal. Very civilised. Very dangerous for anyone pretending this was going to be a quick update. For a park already rich in charm, Ravenring sounds like exactly the sort of addition Efteling does well: theatrical, family-friendly, and rooted in its own world rather than dropped in as a generic ride package. The thing to watch now is whether Ravenring feels like a genuinely worthwhile new family attraction in its own right, or mainly a supporting piece for the renewed Raveleijn show.
